About the Role:
We are seeking a Senior SAP Functional Specialist with deep techno-functional expertise in SAP FICO to support a large-scale ECC to S/4HANA system conversion within a complex retail environment. The role requires extensive hands-on experience in S/4HANA conversions, finance data migration, and conversion remediation across multiple project phases. The successful consultant will have delivered end-to-end S/4HANA system conversions, possess strong financial domain knowledge, and be comfortable working in high-volume transactional environments with complex integrations and strict downtime requirements, including Near-Zero Downtime (NZDT) concepts.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify and resolve pre-conversion inconsistencies across General Ledger, Asset Accounting, and Material Ledger.
Drive Simplification Item List evaluation and remediation, with a strong focus on Finance and retail-specific processes.
Translate complex business requirements into clear functional and technical specifications.
Troubleshoot and resolve finance-related issues during conversion cycles, including Sandbox, Development, Dress Rehearsals, and Mock Conversions.
Collaborate closely with ABAP, Basis, and Data Migration teams to address conversion errors, performance issues, and custom code adaptations.
Assess ECC system integrations impacted by the S/4HANA conversion and drive interface remediation and redesign in line with S/4HANA architecture and best practices.
Work across multiple connected retail systems, including POS, OMS, Merchandising, eCommerce, Warehouse/Logistics, and external suppliers.
Define and support the conversion testing strategy, including unit testing, end-to-end testing, finance reconciliation, and cutover mock cycles.
Execute financial data reconciliation, validate financial statements post-conversion, and perform root-cause analysis of discrepancies.
Lead and coordinate finance-specific cutover activities, ensuring alignment with the overall program plan and timelines.
Participate in Design Advisory Boards, Data Migration Boards, and Conversion Working Groups.
Provide expert guidance to business stakeholders, functional analysts, and technical teams.
Produce high-quality documentation, including conversion designs, data mappings, reconciliation reports, troubleshooting logs, post-migration controls, and SOPs.
Requirements:
Proven experience delivering ECC to S/4HANA system conversions, preferably multiple full-lifecycle projects.
Strong techno-functional SAP FICO expertise, including Finance data migration and reconciliation.
Experience working in retail or other high-volume transactional environments.
Solid understanding of S/4HANA Finance data structures, simplification impacts, and integration patterns.
Familiarity with Near-Zero Downtime (NZDT) or downtime-optimized conversion approaches.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across functional and technical teams.
